Chapelcross - top of the ponds
An important performance target, to drain and clean one of the Chapelcross ponds, was completed recently.
The work began in May 2010, when a ponds programme team arrived at the site to work with site staff and contractors. Draining of the pond began in January 2011 and a total of 400,000 gallons of water were drained, treated and discharged as part of the site's authorised limits.
Magnox Project Manager, Rob Taylor, said: “One of the best things about this project has been the teamwork and the way in which everyone has pulled together to achieve this result. A combination of Chapelcross site staff, working with the ponds programme team and a range of contractors has ensured we understand the plant and complete the work successfully and safely.
